Abstract:
Lignin, a renewable and abundant biopolymer, represents a promising feedstock for producing bio-based chemicals and fuels. In this study, the catalytic hydrogenation of lignin was investigated using a Raney Nickel catalyst varying reaction conditions, including temperature, hydrogen pressure, reaction time, catalyst loading, and solvent type. Ethanol and methanol were employed as solvents. The major products, phenols, esters, and alkanes were identified and quantified using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC–MS).
