Abstract:
The aim of the paper is to evaluate the possibilities to promote the use of biogas in rural areas Finland. Study concentrates on the region of South Savo located in Eastern Finland. Past years and decade the biogas has been interesting topic for farm-scale energy production. However, there has not been any investment in biogas in South Savo. Study concentrates on utilization of biogas in rural areas, especially in energy use and machinery. Price of fossil fuels such as light fuel oil has increased and will increase in the future, which creates better possibilities to utilize biogas. Also tightening CO2 emission targets guide towards renewable energy sources. Part of the study is a questionnaire study mapping opinions about biogas production and utilization and farm entrepreneurs’ opinions. There is also a lack of information about the possibilities and challenges among farms and agricultural entrepreneurs. This is an ongoing study together with LUT University and South-Eastern Finland University of Applied Sciences - XAMK, and more detailed results will be introduced later 2025.
