Abstract:
Improving access to clean cooking is like assembling a puzzle, where the right pieces - technology, accessibility, and user needs - are on the table, yet somehow the picture remains incomplete. Biomass cookstoves have been used for many years with numbers of different models, prototypes or products which are either already available in the market or still under research. They can be one of the answers in paving the path to clean cooking, especially in developing regions. The adoption of appropriate technologies relies on effective decision-making and tailor-made solutions, guided by case-specific evaluations and lessons learned. This paper aims to address not only the barriers in adoption but also our hands-on experience in developing of biomass-based clean cooking solutions in Togo and Ethiopia. We believe that taking every chance to raise awareness on this topic and make it more visible for policymakers, researchers, and practitioners, particularly on the international area is essential for progress.
