Abstract:
This paper explains the benefits of biogas as an energy source and what differentiates it from other types of renewable energy. Its role as a raw material for both energy production and other products, such as biomethane, is discussed, as is the need for its cleaning/purification for its use. The biogas cleaning required before its use is explained through the industrial research project carried out, and the benefits of biogas cleaning when used for energy production. All of the above is explained through a practical example carried out at the Alcala Oeste WWTP in Madrid, where the BTS-MPdry-General technology is applied to clean the biogas produced by this facility. The industrial-scale research carried out demonstrates the advantages of this technology and the benefits of biogas cleaning, on the one hand, for the operation of the cogeneration system (OPEX) and the exhaust gas into the atmosphere (emission quality).
