Abstract:

The hemp industry is experiencing renewed interest in Italy due to its economic and environmental potential. Its cultivation generates significant quantities of plant residues that, if properly managed, can represent a readily available energy resource. The activity was aimed to evaluate the quantity of residual biomass per hectare, the processing losses, the feasibility of the pelletisation process and the physical characteristics of the pellets obtained. The quantity of residual biomass per hectare was found to be 2.5 t, with stems having an average height and basal diameter of 105 cm and 5.9 mm, respectively. The pellets were characterized by a diameter of 6.1 mm, a length of 25.9 mm, a bulk density greater than 600 kg m³, and a durability of 95.5%. C. The results highlight not only the economic potential in utilizing waste from hemp cultivation but also their possible contribution to reducing environmental impact through more efficient resource use.
