Abstract:
The need for renewable, climate-friendly resources has surfaced fast as legislators around the world are trying to find tools for cutting emissions and securing goods for consumers simultaneously. One of the many such tools could be biochar. This study aims to research the state of the art of biochar’s commercial production and maturity in Finnish Northern Ostrobothnia and a case biochar business ecosystem. Key findings were the current state and maturity of the studied regional ecosystem and the structure of the case biochar business ecosystem. The findings can be used as a benchmark in launching new business activities or growing existing ones. The results give a view of biochar’s value creation logic and potential uses after the production stage.
