Abstract:
Miscanthus is C4 perennial rhizomatous crop native to East Asia and it has been recognised as a good candidate for bioenergy production due to its strong biomass potential and the low input requirements during its growing season. For decades the entire production of miscanthus biomass has been obtained through rhizome propagation of Miscanthus x giganteus and, therefore, finding new seed-based hybrids that can adapt to different environments and climatic conditions is crucial. The aim of this research was to evaluate the biomass yield of new miscanthus seed-based hybrids compared to a commercial seed-based hybrid and to Miscanthus x giganteus.
