Abstract:
A container-sized module designed to convert biogas and renewable hydrogen into green methanol with minimal carbon dioxide emissions is presented. The module was tested at the Lemvig Biogas site in Denmark using a novel Ni-Zr-based catalyst for steam reforming of biogas into syngas and a standard Cu-based catalyst for methanol synthesis. Over 500 hours of operation and continuous high-purity green methanol production from biogas for over 50 hours was demonstrated with the module without carbon formation on the catalyst surface or loss of catalytic stability.
