Abstract:
The industrial productivity growth has caused a proportional increase in environmental pollution with dangerous effects on health and ecosystems. Recently has seen an incentive trend to green energy production by conversion systems, from "renewable" sources, and by using residual biomass, by-products and waste from agro-forestry and agro-industrial sectors. This work has the aim, through the evaluation of a pyro-gasification case study, to assess the sustainability and feasibility of a prototype system of residual and agroforestry biomass valorisation. From the feasibility and LCA study, it emerges that the greatest impacts are related to climate change, on both ecosystems and human health, and in particular, are attributable mainly to the following categories: acidification, ecotoxicity in water and soil, global warming, human toxicity, landfill filling, renewable and non-renewable resources.
