Abstract:

Advanced biofuels from lignocelusic biomass are promising options to attend the growing demand for biofuels and to reduce emissions from transport sector. Eucalyptus cultivation in Brazil stands out worldwide for having high yields and its wood and residues can be used as a potential raw material. However, it is essential a spatial monitoring of these yields, mainly considering the large area of Brazil with edaphoclimatic conditions that vary spatially. The aim of this work was parametrizing an agroclimatic model to quantifying the current production of eucalyptus biomass to advanced biofuels production in Brazil. The Crop Assessment Tool (CAT) was parametrized, adapted and evaluated to estimate the wood and residues production of eucalyptus. The model performance was evaluated by comparing the simulated results with real data from the field experiments found in the literature in national and state levels. CAT presented satisfactory average values of estimated productivity and evapotranspiration at state and national levels. Currently, there are 120 Mt of stemwood produced in the study area, with the states of Minas Gerais (25,8 Mt), São Paulo (22,9 Mt) and Mato Grosso do Sul (16,5 Mt) standing out with the highest productions. Additionally, there are 23,5 Mt of eucalyptus residues that may be collected and used as feedstock in the biorefineries.
