Abstract:

There is not a universal method for assessing the quality of composts. This can be mainly attributed to the fact that composts are assessed by means of multiple measured parameters. For the case of composts, several parameters are optimal not necessarily if maximized or minimized but ideally when they are within a specific range of values. The commonly measured compost parameters - i.e., pH, C/N/, RI, GI, and conductivity – are used as input criteria in a Multicriteria Analysis Tool and three scenarios are being used with different assigned weighting factors for each criterion. In this framework we developed, and we introduce the .pre-ranking. approach which is a method that converts the input parameters into adjusted values that can be ranked and thus the minimization and the maximization becomes possible. The utilized Multicriteria method of analysis is PROMETHEE II. In total six different types of composts were assessed, and three different scenarios were considered and compared. The integrated improvements of adjusted weighting factors and adjusted input values change the overall ranking, with the characteristic example of compost C-D that was initially ranked as second best and after the adjustments ended up being the alternative with the smallest Phi value.
