Integration of Hydrogen and Ammonia Energy into Combined Cycles: the FLEXnCONFU Project

Abstract:

EU is highly dependent on fossil fuels imports, as a way to improve its energetic autonomy, P2X2P solutions could play a key role. This document briefly presents the concept of FLEXnCONFU project, an integration of P2H and P2A solutions into a combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) plant in Portugal. A consortium of 21 organizations from 10 European countries representing the entire supply chain will collaborate for 4 years on this EU-funded industrial project. The injection of alternative fuels (i.e. H2 and NH3) will help the current “fuel switch” the EU is facing, drastically reducing greenhouse gases (GHG) emissions. P2X solutions, which are currently widely studied, coupled with renewable energy sources (RES), could help the CC to levelling their load reducing its environmental impact.
