Abstract:

Within the CAMEVAR project, we are assessing the effect of a foliar treatment with two active ingredients (KAI1 and KAI2) provided by Kaneka Corporation on camelina (Camelina sativa (L.) Crantz). We have studied the variation on yield, seed size, oil content and protein. We selected 16 plots of one square meter to perform the foliar treatments (control, KAI1, KAI2, and KAI1+KAI2). The doses used were as follow: a) KAI1 – 1 L/ha (as 1 part of KAI1 diluted to 1000 parts of water); and b) KAI2 – 0.5 g/m2 (as 1 g of KAI2 diluted to 500 g of water and applied at a rate of 250 mL/ha). The control plot had no treatment and the KAI1+KAI2 plot had both. We highlight the results of the KAI1 and KAI2 treatments, which had a remarkable effect on final seed yield. Up to three times higher (about 300 kg/ha) when compared to the control plot (100 kg/ha). The combination of KAI1+KAI2 showed a boost in yield (about 700 kg/ha) when compared to the control plot. Results are quite remarkable, when considering the yield, seed size and oil content. Thus, opening an interesting framework to increase and improve camelina cultivation.
