Abstract:
The Netherlands has an ambitious goal to reduce Green House Gas emissions (49% in 2030) and 85% in 2050. At the same moment there is the aim to reduce the primary consumption of materials by 50% in 2030. To achieve this a major transition in the material and energy supply is required. First steps on this transition are taken and monitoring of these first steps suggest that all sectors play a role. This paper will present the monitoring results of the Netherlands Enterprise Agency, including the contribution of biomass to a low-carbon development. The data suggests that innovation involves both biobased and circular economy but with a growing interest for the latter while a market introduction of biobased and circular economy is taking place, albeit gradually.
