Abstract:

The bioliq® pilot plant serves as technical demonstration and large-scale research platform for optimization and further technological development of the individual technologies and of the combined process. An additional objective is the provision of technically relevant syngas quantities for gas cleaning and other synthetic processes and of sufficient amounts of biofuel for application tests in engine test benches or test drives. The process chain consists of four large technological stages: (1) fast pyrolysis previously only used for wheat straw in which various improvement have led to stable, trouble-free operation and representative pyrolysis products. (2) Gasification is carried out in an entrained-flow gasifier at pressures of up to 80 bar adapted to the subsequent chemical synthesis. Since 2013 approx. 960 t of different slurries have been converted in about 1300 operating hours. (3) Prior to the synthesis, the crude synthesis gas undergoes dry high-pressure hot gas cleaning at up to 800 °C, which has been proven to fulfil the purity requirements for acid gases (HCl, H2S) by means of fixed-bed sorption. (4) After removal of CO2 and water, single-step synthesis of both methanol/dimethyl ether and fuel is carried out before gasoline synthesis as second step, producing around 2100 litres of bio-based crude petroleum in three operating campaigns since 2017.
