Abstract:
The paper shows the assumptions for the biomass grindability index (BGI) determination method in the laboratory-scale batch beater mill. It shows the determined grindability indices for eight kinds of pelletized and raw biomass as well, and the specific energy consumption (JZE) determined in the industrial and the laboratory-scale mills. The industrial-scale tests, performed for pelletized fuel (sunflower and herbaceous pellet mixtures), and the laboratory-scale tests as well, performed for raw fuels (willow, barley straw, corn stalks), resulted in well-defined correlations between JZE and the fuel grindability indices. Both, BGI and the index based on the work index, resulting from the general milling process equation with exponent value of n = 3 established for biomass, adequately classifies the analysed biomass fuels. They are also in line with the ublished data concerning JZE forecasting.
