Abstract:

The energy made possible technological advances with the economic, social and environmental impacts. A new political, social and economic order in the world arises contributing a great deal to injustice and social inequality. The Human Development Index can be evaluated the inequality in the world. Brazil, currently in 79th place and has great regional inequalities. Using the methodology of the BREA Project [1], The objective of this global study, being developed in a PhD research, is to assess the potential (and to discuss the corresponding challenges) of residual biomass use for energy supply for productive uses, contributing to raise life quality in low HDI municipalities. The study will also identify the economic, technical, political and logistic difficulties to achieve this goal, proposing local alternatives for energy conversion from the existing residual biomass. This option is expected to be an alternative to HDI increase, through a higher energy access to allow productive uses, as well as a reduction of greenhouse gases (GHG) emissions and a better waste disposal. This paper presents the results of the first phase of the study, the data collected in the field visits, as well as the first analysis of the BAT to improve energy access.
