Abstract:

In small countries like Lithuania that do not possess their own resources of fossil fuels, interest in alternative energy sources is noticeable. In order to become energetically independent and economically sound, the country expands especially utilization of various wastes in the energy sector – for production of heat and electric energy. One of the most appropriate technologies appears to be the gasification. In order to obtain nitrogen free syngas, the oxygen blown gasification can be adopted, which is not very common for downdraft gasifier and should be more investigated. Therefore, the purpose of this work is to perform experimental trials of air and oxygen blown gasification in a downdraft gasifier using residual biomass and compare process performance. Experimental investigations performed at the downdraft gasifier with the nominal heat capacity of 100 kW according producer gas. The gasification unit consists of two main parts - gasifier and boiler. For experimental investigation as a fuel residual forest waste was used.
