Abstract:

The present work aims to study the thermochemical conversion of lignocellulosic wastes and their mixtures with lipid wastes through hydrothermal carbonization (HTC). The raw materials used were a mixture of forestry wastes and lipid waste (resulting from the filtration of used cooking oils). HTC was studied by varying temperature (200 ° C to 300 ° C), volume of water added maintaining the ratio biomass: water constant (250 mL to 750 mL), biomass: water ratio (1:5 to 1:15) and percentage of incorporation of the lipid waste (0 % to 40 %). The HTC process presented hydrochar mass yields between 29.7 % and 55.9 %. The produced hydrochars presented improved fuel properties, mainly increased fixed carbon (15.1 % to 34.7 %), increased carbon content (51.7 % to 64.5 %), reduced ash content (2.5 % to 4.8 %) and high calorific value (21.1 MJ/kg to 24.1 MJ/kg). The process temperature and the biomass: water ratio were the process parameters with the greatest influence on the properties of the hydrochars. Reduction of the ash content of the hydrochars is the main advantage of this process and has reached a maximum value of 77.9 % for the HTC test conducted at 250 °C for 30 minutes.
