Abstract:

Agricultural, wood and woodworking waste utilization is an urgent problem, the solution of which is capable of protecting the environment, as well as a significant increase in the profitability of production in related economic sectors. Low-temperature pyrolysis (torrefaction) of biomass waste allows to produce high-quality solid hydrocarbon biofuel, which has higher rates of heating value and hydrophobicity, which significantly reduces the cost of its transportation and storage. Torrefied biomass can be used as fuel partially replacing coal, or completely as independent fuel, in existing coal-fired boilers. However, the implementation of torrefaction process is accompanied by considerable troubles. During plant biomass torrefaction, exothermic reactions take place, which can significantly affect the processing course. There are various ways to overcome these challenges. A feature of developed torrefaction unit is gas piston engine combustion products using as a heat carrier for torrefaction process realization. The aim of this paper is to carry out a comparative evaluation of the effectiveness of torrefaction process realization various ways (taking into account exothermic effect presence), and the research of possible ways of torrefaction unit operating optimization.
