Abstract:

‘Village level entrepreneurship’ gives an opportunity to Indian farmers to become an entrepreneur. It entails three main elements- farmers, pellet making and industries- consumption point for pellets .Farmer buys pellet maker (machine which can process agro waste to produce pellets) from an industry (collaborator) with a buy back guarantee of 100% on pellets produced from the machine. Industries- consumption points will buy these pellets from farmers having pellet maker machine for their heating applications instead of using conventional fuel.(Industry selling pellet maker machine will collaborate between farmers and other consumptions points to set up supply chain ) In this process farmers will generate an additional assured income; industries will reduce carbon emissions, save on fuel bills as pellets are cheaper than fossil fuels. Industries will be eligible for trading carbon credits .This win-win situation is a step towards inclusive growth of all the stake holders including nature mother earth. VLE has been implemented at a facility in India– as a pilot project; to evaluate the well to wheel (WTW) energy analysis of pellets along with the economic analysis to address all its energy and economics aspects from the farmers as well as industrial point of view. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the concept as a guideline to set up a decentralised biomass supply chain model for other industries in India and promote sustainable biomass supply chain. The study claims that the well to wheel efficiency of the pellets supply is efficient which is completely based on distance and economical than compared to other conventional fuels.
