Abstract:

IEA Bioenergy is a strong international network with a vision to achieve a substantial bioenergy contribution to future global energy demands by accelerating the production and use of environmentally sound, socially accepted and cost-competitive bioenergy on a sustainable basis. Within IEA Bioenergy and its Tasks, regular information exchange on bioenergy strategies and policies, the implementation of bioenergy in the national energy mix and on related R&D work is facilitated among the participating national experts. In an effort to provide a picture of bioenergy implementation of these countries and to provide this country-level information to a broader audience, the policies, energy statistics and R&D efforts of these countries have been pulled together into one report, reflecting the current situation of bioenergy. Countries show great variation in their specific drivers for bioenergy and their capability of producing biomass. To introduce bioenergy globally, we must understand the specifities of each country. Successful market introduction of bioenergy is based on strong policies that turn low carbon energy provision into a business case.
