Abstract:

Due to the development of voluminous slags and deposits in distinct parts of the combustion chamber and the boiler of biomass heat and power plants the energy transfer from flue gas to heat exchanger surfaces is reduced, which lowers the energy efficiency of the plants. Within a research project slagging on the walls of the combustion chamber in eight differ-ent biomass power plants in Europe and Asia are investigated systematically to find coherences between the biofuels and the resulting slags and deposits. In order to reduce slagging processes mineralogical and chemical composition of the slags were determined and documented in a biofuel catalogue that shows the relationship between biofuels and resulting slags. On the basis of the biofuel catalogue fuel-based and process optimization options can be developed.
