Abstract:
In Italy the share of energy consumption covered by renewable sources is about 17% (70% of the heat, 8% of the electric). The plants for energy production from solid biomass are 251 equal to 664 MW. The supply flows derive largely from woody biomass of forest exploitation, trees outside forest and plantations, from imports, and from wood residues and by-products of the wood industry and post-consumption. In the short chains system the energy incentives policies encourage especially the production of energy from waste and residues of agricultural crops and forestry utilisations. In this paper we evaluated the woody biomass availability from residues and wastes of forest exploitation, plantations and arboriculture, pruning of agricultural crops, in particular, vineyards, olive groves and orchards. Are valued the amount of obtainable biomass from agricultural and forest resources characteristics for the Italian territory minimizing the mobilization of biomass to meet the constraints established for short chains. The potential availability of biomass that can result from forest, plantations and agricultural woody crops are relevant.
