Abstract:
The paper aims to scrutinize the biomass sector in Romania, going on a triple layer structure. The paper starts with an assessment of the biomass sector in Romania, mapping the potential for biomass development. The analysis includes the potential for various types of biomass in Romania and the importance of biomass production for Romania. Afterwards, the paper stresses out the legislative measures that have been adopted in Romania in recent years to stimulate the development of biomass production and use, within the policy measures upholding the widespread use of renewable energy resources taken at both European and Romanian level. Thirdly, the paper focuses on some of the technologies available on the market (local, European, international) to produce and use biomass to pinpoint the most efficient (from an integrated perspective of both costs and performances) in order to conclude on the opportunity for full deployment of biomass in Romania.
