Abstract:

Pyrolysis gases generated by the allothermic gasification method exit the gasifier at high temperatures (up to 800 °C) and usually low pressure levels. Besides, they contain several undesirable components like dust, tar, sulfur and high water content. Due to the fact that up to date there are no reliable fans on the market for the conveyance of such hot gases, it is still very difficult and costly to utilize these pyrolysis gases by conventional burner systems economically. There is therefore a need for specifically designed burner system to utilize such gases. Such a burner system was developed by "Gas- und Wärme-Institut Essen e.V."(GWI) and "Regenerative Energie Wirtschaftssysteme GmbH" (REW) in the course of a German ZIM-research project (ZIM No. KF2517705CL2). Since 2015 this new burner system has been in operation at an industrial waste gasification plant. The thermal energy released by the combustion of the pyrolysis gas is partly used to provide heat for the pyrolysis process itself and partly for another thermal process by means of a heat exchanger. In this contribution, the burner system as well as experimental results will be presented and operational experience showed.
