Abstract:

Bio-wastes contain valuable plant nutrients. After the biogas production, the digestates can be used as fertilizers or soil amendments. In the current project VeNGA four products were developed on the basis of anaerobically digested and subsequently composted bio-waste. Compost was sieved (compost fine, product 1), and further treated whereby two more products were achieved, a pellet (product 2) and an agglomerate (product 3). The fourth product is hand-sorted compost. Impurities e. g. plastic waste, were sorted out by hand. For the potential bio-fertilizers and/or soil amendments a price has to be defined. The prices for the four products are based on the monetary value of plant nutrients contained and on the monetary value of the humus reproduction potential contained, furthermore on the cost of the manufacturing processes. Therefore, the prices and the valuable contents of the new bio-products are compared with current prices and nutrient contents of mineral fertilizers and with the costs for fodder grass cultivation or the market prices for straw. Further calculation will define the point where digestates attain the viability threshold in comparison to mineral fertilizers.
