Abstract:

In this work, new nickel lanthana promoted catalyst was synthesized, tested and compared with thermal tar conversion process. An alternative analysis method implemented allows taking measure of product distribution and tar conversion estimation in continuous way by GC-mass spectrometry, overcoming the problems ascribed to the discontinuous method proposed by the Technical Specification CEN/TS 15439. The catalyst synthesized showed total toluene conversion without by-products (tar) at 500 oC when was submitted to a sludge gasification simulated gas stream using toluene as a model tar compound in a concentration of 25 g·m-3. Catalyst was tested in a long-term experiment up to 110 h at 700 oC, showing total toluene conversion without by-products presence (tar), which demonstrate that this catalyst could be implemented in a bench scale gasifier to be tested in real conditions.
