Abstract:

In a distributed way, close to and integrated with biomass cycles, mainly in rural areas with low population density, bio- and thermochemical conversion and upgrading, especially for the natural gas grid, integrate very well with the end-use in form of thermal and electrical energy for sustainable buildings in urban areas with high energy density. Especially for the integration in sustainable building energy supply up to active buildings, electrical energy with its increasingly efficient use, e.g. by LED lighting, can be generated as needed in conjunction with thermal energy, inherently or additionally stored in buildings. With the low fraction of electrical energy needed, thermoelectric generation with its modular flexible scalability and direct integration is becoming attractive. For improved sustainability, exergy analysis is used to assess and optimze system performance.
