Abstract:
In the European domestic sector are produced about 1.748 Mts/year of Used Cooking Oil (UCOs), of which the main part is improperly disposed off with associated harmful impact in terms of sewage clogging and water contamination. Most of European countries lack wide spread collection systems to collect UCO produced by households, although exist a great potential in the recycling of UCO, which increases interest in the collection process, in particular for the production of biodiesel. Biodiesel produced through the transformation of UCO, besides avoiding competition with agricultural food products, has the lowest emissions of greenhouse gas amongst biofuels, ensuring 88% emission savings. The online guide provides newcomers with useful information concerning key success factors, citizens habits and attitudes and technical procedures. The outcomes of this analysis have been tested by 7 pilot projects implemented in five (5) EU countries, as living labs to verify the applicability of the proposed strategies.
