Abstract:

The fast pyrolysis is a process applied to biomass in order to densifies it, the resulting product is named bio-oil. The bio-oil can serve as a feedstock for the biorefinery. This compound can be transformed into synthesis gas through pyrolysis at higher temperatures. During the process, polymerization reactions could occur, forming coke inside the reactor. The coke can clog the reactor and/or deactivate catalysts that are in the process. This work have the objective to reduce coke formation in the reactor by previous distillation of the bio-oil. The result of pyrolysis of the bio-oil was no coking in the reactor when using the distillated bio-oil. The lower heat value of the gas resulting from pyrolysis of distillated bio-oil was 8.3 ± 0.6 MJ/Nm3, and the gas resulting from the pyrolysis of whole bio-oil was 6.1 ± 0.7 MJ/Nm3.
