Abstract:
In the rapidly evolving field of bioeconomy, sustainability is one of the main drivers of the development. However, assessing sustainability is becoming very complex. Industry-relevant benchmarking of sustainability requires a tool, which takes into account both up-to-date best understanding of sustainability aspects and current advancement of technology and bio-based value chains. A recently developed tool Gaia Biorefiner is such a tool. In this study it was used for benchmarking of wood-based fuel against fossil fuel in energy production.
