Abstract:
The paper deals with the transition from consumers to prosumers. In this connection, starting from the EU policy objectives and the goals formulated by the European Directives in this field, the European context for households, electricity demand and Smart grid vs. Consumer is presented. In this frame, the active involvement of consumers is rendered and the connection with the smart grid transformation tailored to consumers’ needs considering the availability of consumers to pay for its implementation. In the interaction of Smart consumer with Smart Grids, three main categories of technologies were distinguished. These technologies are: In-house, House-to-grid and House/grid-to-enterprise and the recent achievements and their state- of- art are explained. Finally, the paper shows an in-house technology implemented in a project house built in the Dunarea de Jos University campus, having as renewable energy for supplying a trigeneration system, solar energy (thermal panels and PV) and biomass (pellet boiler as back-up).
