Abstract:
CALCUGEI, the Spanish calculation tool, is a biofuel greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions calculator developed to implement the European Directive (2009/28/EC) focused on the promotion of renewable energy and the European Directive (2009/30/EC) on Fuel Quality into national law. This tool allows the calculation of actual or calculated values (combination of actual and default values) of greenhouse gas emissions at each stage of the life cycle of biofuels in a friendly way by introducing data from the various processes. CALCUGEI has been selected by the Spanish Ministry of Industry, Tourism and Trade as one of the options to calculate the GHG emission savings of biofuels consumed in the country (Royal Decree 1597/2011). Agricultural data, from the most common energy crops cultivated in Spain, are available at NUTS2, NUTS3 and NUTS 4 levels. CALCUGEI has been developed by the Energy, Environmental and Technological Research Centre (CIEMAT) in the framework of a collaboration agreement with the Institute for Diversification and Saving of Energy (IDAE). The CALCUGEI tool can be freely downloaded from the website of IDAE www.idae.es.
