Abstract:
An experimental test plant is designed to investigate the liquefaction of lignocellulosic biomass via reactive distillation. Biomass is fed continuously into a reactor, where a liquid reaction medium is placed. The reaction medium interacts with the biomass and serves as heat carrier as well. Resulting vapours are continuously removed through distillation. With increasing amounts of biomass being fed into the reactor solid residues enrich in the sump phase, which is not beneficial for the process. Aiming at a continuous operation it is necessary to remove solid residue. Therefore, experimental set-ups for high temperature filtration, vacuum distillation and extraction are designed.
