Abstract:

Syngas is produced by gasification of biomass. In addition to the calorific components, this syngas also contains several pollutants, the main one is tar. These pollutants cause problems in further utilization such as corrosion, abrasion and fouling of equipment using the gas. There are several methods to modify gas quality to the required value of final applications. Final applications are represented by combustion engines or combustion turbines. This paper discusses issues related to syngas cleaning with a special focus on wet scrubbing. Water and organic liquid in the form of rapeseed oil methyl ester (RME) are used as the scrubbing liquid. Various scrubbing operating conditions were designed such as scrubbing temperature and scrubbing liquid level. Suitability of these was validated in experiments. Experiments were carried out on syngas from atmospheric fluid gasifier Biofluid 2. The aim of this paper is to determine the concentration of tar from purified syngas and raw syngas. Comparison of tar components concentration is used to assess the efficiency of the wet scrubbing. Both water and RME have quite good scrubbing properties. However, the efficiency of RME scrubbing is higher in all cases. Water scrubbing is not as effective as RME so this method should be perfected.
