Abstract:

The objective of this study was to elucidate the effect of liquid phase product from simultaneous hydrothermal milling pretreatment (SHMP) of eucalyptus on enzymatic hydrolysis and fermentation. For this purpose, firstly, we conducted component analysis for solid before and after pretreatment. Secondly, enzymatic hydrolysis and following fermentation with the liquid phase after pretreatment were conducted using commercial cellulose and glucose as feedstock. Forage fiver analysis was used for solid part component analysis. High performance liquid chromatography was used for liquid phase analysis. Consequently, lignin was the main component that was dissolved during SHMP. Representative fermentation inhibitors and monosaccharide as a decomposition product of cellulose and hemicellulose were not detected. In addition, these decomposed products did not affect enzymatic hydrolysis and fermentation.
