Abstract:

Small pellet boilers (P < 70 kW) are considered as an established and widely spread technology for the heating of private dwellings and small commercial buildings. They are characterised by high thermal efficiency and are well suited for combination with solar collector systems. The performance of such dual heat source systems is however highly depending on the hydraulic scheme and the controlling strategy. For getting a better view on the parameters, which influence the performance of pellet boiler based heating systems, EIFER has been carrying out onsite monitoring of 9 small pellet boilers since 2 years. The objective is to obtain a complete annual energy balance of the heating systems, as well as continuous values for the parameters influencing the performance. The boilers are installed mainly in private houses in the south-western part of Germany.
