Abstract:

There are 54 biogas plants in Latvia. In recent years, their activities have been subject to various restrictions and reduced support. Every biogas plant owner needs to carefully evaluate the possibilities of using different raw materials available to them and find the optimal solutions. We also need to look for ways to make better use of the biogas plant's end products - electricity, heat and digestate. The aim of this study was to calculate the theoretically possible biogas production results from raw materials available at a cattle farm, taking into account the requirement of a manure ratio is at least 60%, and to compare the results with laboratory and large-scale production from the same substrate, the raw materials were fermented in two 110 litre bioreactors. Sixteen 0.75 litre bioreactors were used to determine the potential of biogas from each specific feedstock and its co-fermentation. At the biogas plant, the raw materials were fermented in two consequential 3090 m3 bioreactors. The average specific biogas potential of these raw materials was calculated 480.91 m3 t-1. In the laboratory was tested a novel post-fermentation application of digestate obtained from these raw materials - digestate was mixed with wood ash to obtain a new products, in form of mixtures or pellets, usable for plant fertilization.
