Abstract:
Possibilities to obtain truckload-specific information about the moisture of forest-fuel deliveries has increased recently at Finnish power plants. In this study, moisture measurement data from two power plants were connected with data from supply chains to see the impact of different supply-chain factors on the final moisture of forest chips. The majority of studied supply chains succeeded in biomass drying in the stand after the harvest. The results also indicate that storing the biomass in paper-covered roadside stacks after the stand storage may increase the probability to receive fuel deliveries in desired moisture at the plant.
