Bioenergy from Research to Market Deployment in a European Context |
|
Wednesday 14 June 2017
08:30 - 15:00
The link between research and industry initiatives will be the focus of the Parallel Event Bioenergy - from Research to Market Deployment in a European Context. This event will offer the opportunity to learn more about the latest bioenergy research developments from experts in the field in Europe and to participate in a unique interactive discussion on how to drive this research forward to the market.
As Maria Georgiadou of the European Commission will explain, research, innovation and competitiveness are all three together one of the five pillars of the Commission's Energy Union strategy. In this context, the European Strategic Energy Technology Plan (SET-Plan) acts as the technology pillar of the EU’s climate and energy policy bringing together the European Commission, the Member States and associated Countries as well as the stakeholder platforms. The SET-Plan aims to accelerate the development and deployment of low-carbon technologies. It seeks to improve new technologies and bring down costs by coordinating national research efforts and helping to finance projects. Key Action Number 8 describes the specific targets for the advancement of “Renewable fuels and bioenergy” within the European Union and its Member States.
Ingvar Landälv, Chair of ETIP Bioenergy (www.etipbioenergy.eu) Steering Committee confirms that the European Technology and Innovation Platform Bioenergy is an industry-led stakeholder platform that brings together relevant actors from academia, industry, and civil society, engaged in the development of sustainable bioenergy and competitive biofuel technologies and which co-operates closely with the EU Commission and relates to Member States. One important task of ETIP Bioenergy is to address the technical and economic barriers which hinder commercial deployment of bioenergy technologies which in turn will contribute to decarbonisation of society.
