EU support for bioenergy demonstration projects: current state and developments

The session will provide an overview of the current state and developments of bioenergy and advanced biofuels projects currently ongoing under the frame of the European Industrial Bioenergy Initiative (EIBI) and the EU framework programmes for Research & Innovation (FP7, H2020) and under different funding instruments such as NER 300, the BESTF ERANET programme. Experiences from projects will be shared with the audience and a panel will discuss challenges and opportunities identified.

International Cooperation for Sustainable Biomass and Bioenergy

This forum will explore the role of international cooperation in promoting the use of sustainable biomass for development projects. The focus will be on small and medium scale applications for the production of energy and fuels. The first session will present the main financing programs developed by international institutions and some concrete examples of their application. The second part will present the main policies and programs available in different regions of the world. A final moderated roundtable open to the audience will discuss how to promote research and cooperation in bioenergy for sustainable development.

Mobilisation of forest bioenergy: Green dream or reality?

It is expected that the share of modern bioenergy in the future global energy mix, notably from forest biomass, will increase significantly. Countries with mature forestry sectors from the boreal and temperate biomes will play an important role in the mobilisation of forest biomass. Organised by IEA Bioenergy Task 43 and the SUPERGEN Bioenergy Hub in this event a number of challenges, key opportunities and innovative solutions for forest bioenergy mobilisation will be discussed by experts from academia, government and industry.

Introduction to the biogas package: software for biogas research
Organiser: University of Southern Denmark

The biogas package provides free, open-source tools for easy, accurate, and reproducible processing of biogas data and prediction of biogas production. Workshop participants will be taught how to use this software for common tasks, including standardisation of measured gas volume, calculation of BMP, and prediction of methane production.
