Incorporating Efficient Bioenergy in Industry
MONDAY, 6 JULY, 14:00 – 16:00, MAIN AUDITORIUM

CONCEPT
The Clean Energy Transition Unit of the European Commission’s General Directorate of Research and Innovation/Clean Planet Directorate will organise a Workshop on Incorporating Efficient Bioenergy in Industry on 6 July 2020 on-line. The workshop will take place at the side of the 28th edition of the European Biomass Conference & Exhibition.
The research policy workshop will aim at how to integrate the bioenergy and biofuels/ renewable fuels innovation chain in energy consuming industrial sectors. Ways for contributing to the clean energy transformation in line with the Strategic Development Goals and the European Green Deal will be discussed. For this purpose, the workshop will address how research and innovation can support the development of solutions for embedding bioenergy and advanced biofuels in agricultural, manufacturing, chemical, petrochemical and energy-intensive industrial sectors. The research needs for an optimum combination of such bioenergy solutions with green hydrogen and circular economy in a value chain approach will be illustrated. The innovation requirements for the prospective flexibility of bioenergy in energy storage and energy balancing demands will be discussed. The anticipated gains for stabilizing and improving the overall system in terms of performance and cost reduction will be analysed.
Research projects supported under the European Union’s Framework Programme Horizon 2020 – Secure, clean and efficient energy challenge will feed into the discussion. The views of industrial operators and policy makers will be an important additional attribute for identifying the potential of bioenergy as an enabling technology for replacing sustainably and effectively fossil carbon in energy requirements for natural resource replenishing, industrial processing and modern producing.
