EUBCE 2019 News No. 16

Final Call for EUBCE 2019 in Lisbon, Portugal: last days to register on line

Only a few days: the EUBCE 2019, 27th European Conference and Exhibition, is about to begin. The Conference Programme, coordinated by the European Commission, offers a high level scientific line up and the exhibition space has almost completely booked.

EUBCE focuses on demonstrable science, policy and industry trends, benefiting in its 2019 edition from an all-time record of 1,105 abstracts received from 75 countries, 281 keynote, plenary and oral presentations juried in, and over 1,400 delegates and 43 exhibitors pre-registered.

Hosting this event of global significance in Lisbon is symbolic as Portugal is a pioneer country in renewable energy and in March 2018 Portugal generated more renewable energy than it needed. This country has committed to becoming carbon neutral by 2050 and is aiming for 35% renewable energy by 2030, in line with the new regulatory framework agreed by the European Parliament on 13th November 2018, which sets a binding renewable energy target of at least 32% in the EU by 2030, including a review clause by 2023 for an upward revision.

“This is Europe’s largest biomass gathering event with 83 conference sessions, more than 40 international exhibitors, parallel events organised with major international organisations and offering a deep insight into specific topics along the most recent technology, market and business trends, and networking opportunities – said Prof. Maria da Graça Carvalho, European Commission, Directorate-General Research and Innovation, Member Scientific Advice Mechanism Unit, EUBCE Conference General Chair.

“The Conference will be a good opportunity to learn about the value of residual biomass of forests, to help to prevent forest fires. The theme of this year’s event is "The role of biomass in delivering the Paris targets and supporting sustainable development goals
".
