EuroBioRef Workshop: Future Prospects for Biorefineries
Tuesday, 19 June 2012, 14.00 - 18.30
The workshop will be organised in the course of the project inviting external experts participating in the European Biomass Conference to discuss the project objectives and results obtained until this period and to benefit from potentially new research results. This workshop provides direct feedback regarding their current research activities and considers their ideas to be included in the project. The workshop will also seek to place the work of EuroBioRef concept in an EU perspective and look at the overall policy framework driving biorefineries in the EU. This will then be compared on an international level to be concluded by a round table assessing the prospects for biorefineries in the EU compared to the EU’s international partners.
The event is organised by

Job Opportunities in the Biomass/Bioenergy Sector
Wednesday 20 June, 8.30 - 10.30
This special event on 'Job Opportunities in the Biomass/Bioenergy Sector' addresses the main challenges emerging in the field of education for the biomass/bioenergy sector. 'Bio-themes' appear in different established courses (agriculture, mechanical engineering, process engineering, civil engineering, etc.). There are numerous bio related topics and therefore education has to cover both the full bandwidth of this sector as well as the depth of each of its topics. Thus different education models are available in Europe. This event will bring together companies, potential candidates and universities, identifying their needs and discussing the crucials for qualified staff for the biomass/bioenergy industry.
The event is organised by

Biogas upgrading and grid injection:
Wednesday, 20 June 2012, 9.30 - 17.30
This special event on 'Biogas upgrading and grid injection' addresses the main challenges for further biomethane development in Europe. The upgrading of biogas to biomethane for feed-in to the natural gas grid or for use as vehicle fuel is gaining in interest and importance worldwide. More than 150 plants are already in operation and many are under construction or in the planning stage. During this one-day-event we will elucidate the state of biogas upgrading along the overall value-chain with a special focus on Europe.
The event is organised by

Biomass and Bioenergy: an Investor's Perspective - Challenges and Opportunities for the Financial Community:
Wednesday, 20 June 2012, 14.00 - 18.30
Biomass trade will be essential for Europe to achieve renewable energy targets, yet the financial community does not well understand the risks associated with biomass and thus capital to develop biomass trade is difficult to find. This event will provide the financial community with information on latest trends in the biomass and bioenergy industry, market perspectives for biomass, biofuels and bio-based chemicals, trade opportunities, options to mitigate risks, ensuring sustainability & technologies for next gen biofuels. The workshop will look at investments to promote trade from the point of view of the investor and project proponents, and show examples of successful joint ventures. A final round table will provide a platform for interactive debate and the presentation of possible project proposals.
The event is organised by

Italian Biomass Forum (in italian language)
Thursday, 21 June 2012, 10.00 - 17.30
The Italian Biomass Forum initiative will act as an opportunity to update and discuss perspectives and present scenarios of biomass in Italy. The state of the production and use of biomass energy in our country, will be the focus of the topics discussed during the Forum.
Particular attention will be given by experts to the latest technical and legislation developments. The contributions of specialists in the field presented in the first part of the day, will be followed by a round table discussion with key national leaders of the institutional and the associative world of the biomass sector.
The event is organised by

Bioenergy in Smart Grids
Thursday, 21 June 2012, 13.30 - 18.30
The special event on 'Bioenergy in Smart Grids' will focus on the application of bioenergy in future energy supply structures with a high share of renewable energy. Virtual power plants, energy management systems are further synonyms for a very important task for the bio energy scene: The definition of the future role of biomass in combination with other renewable energy forms and its integration in the grids. The event will give the opportunity for both communities (smart grids and bioenergy) to merge their specific views on the topic and to give each other a deeper insight in their specific activities.
