Advances in biomass application deployment promotes rapid market uptake

Kyriakos Maniatis PhD

Former European Commission DG ENER

The 30th edition of the European Biomass Conference and Exhibition, EUBCE 2022 will be held between 9th May and 12th May 2022. The Industry Track of the EUBCE will showcase the recent advances achieved by the industry in deploying biomass applications for rapid market uptake.

At the same time of the EUBCE the recent and brutal war taking place in Ukraine and the suffering of the Ukrainian people, has completely changed all predictions for energy policy, planning and strategies for decarbonising the European economy. These facts will have an acute effect on the use of biomass, some can be severe while other can provide new prospects resulting in new visions and expectations. Although it is too late to reshape the Industry Track to account for the above developments, every effort will be undertaken in trying to anticipate the effect of the turbulent policy landscape in the market deployment of biomass applications and products.

In addition to the traditional sessions on Progress in conversion technologies, biomass crops and advanced biofuels the Industry Tracks will highlight the following:

Dedicated sessions on sustainable aviation fuel use in China and India
A session/panel on Breakthrough innovation based on EIC Accelerator Horizon Europe Programme projects
A panel discussion on Carbon Markets
A panel discussion on the Availability of Sustainable biomass in the EU towards 2050
A panel discussion on Opportunities and challenges for the use of biofuels in road transport

Finally, at the end of the EUBCE programme there will be a dedicated panel discussion trying to recapture the key messages from the 30th EUBCE aiming to position the role of biomass into the changing policy environment.

Join our sessions and panel discussions for refreshing presentations and debates that will answer several of your questions while at the same time they will provide you food for thought on the present and future issues around biomass production, use and deployment.
