25th European Biomass Conference and Exhibition

The European Biomass Conference and Exhibition (EUBCE) represents one of the key events in Europe and worldwide for professionals and companies operating at the top end of the biomass and the bioenergy sectors. This June in Stockholm the EUBCE will celebrate its 25th edition.

Ever since Europe and its Member States begun developing policies and research programs for renewable energy, the EUBCE has always been an important event to collect the knowledge and to share the views of biomass experts from research, industry, and policy.
With presentations addressing the latest technologies, the policy framework, and the medium and long-term strategies and potentials, EUBCE is the annual meeting point for the transfer of knowledge and expertise among research, industry and policy makers.

What can journalists expect?

The event will have something for every journalist: whether you are an energy newcomer or specialist, following global policy-making trends or focusing on basic research or the manufacturing industry. More than 800 plenary, oral and visual presentations, numerous parallel events and workshops offering a deep insight into specific issues and current hot topics, a dynamic and stimulating industry exhibition and many social gatherings will be open to you during this annual meeting point for the international biomass community.
A Press Conference will be scheduled for Monday 12 June 2017 at 12:30 together with the launch of the World Bioenergy Association Global Bioenergy Statistics 2017.
Furthermore, a tailored press programme will be organized for your benefit in order for you to be able to write, make interviews, collect new product releases and review material.

A taste of issues at stake

As every year the conference programme will touch on all the different subjects of the biomass sector along the week.

The conference will tackle from the beginning the "The Indispensable Role of Biomass" as part of the long-term goal agreed in Paris of limiting the increase of global average temperature and bioenergy in the wider bio-economy. Biomass potential, bioenergy policies targets for 2030 and beyond will be part of the debate.

The plenary sessions will address some of the major challenges that the biomass community is facing today such as the debate on the perspectives and approaches for bioenergy, the production and utilisation of biofuels and different potential biomass feedstocks, including the organic fraction of municipal waste, the recent findings in the field of thermochemical biomass conversion technologies as well as the challenges and opportunities of establishing bioconversion processes for the bio-based economy. Key approaches for the integration of bioenergy technologies implemented in a flexible manner to provide energy output on demand as well as the latest developments of large-scale industrial plants processing biomass residues and wastes to biofuels and bioenergy will also be presented and discussed.

The conference will conclude on how to better "achieve the transition from research to industrial implementation". Important issues will be tackled during the conference, such as biomass production for energy integrated into food and feed farming, integration of bioenergy into a bio-based economy and that of bioenergy with other energy sources.

Background of the European Biomass Conference and Exhibition

EUBCE is the most important international conference for the biomass sector, combined with a technology exhibition. For more than 30 years, it has been serving as the annual meeting point for biomass experts from research, development and the industry. With presentations addressing the latest technologies, the policy framework, and the medium and long-term strategies and potentials, EUBCE is the interface between science, industry and policy makers

The quality of the EUBCE programme is excellent, ensured by the Scientific and Industry Committee comprising 140 international biomass experts. At 2017 EUBCE more than 3,856 authors and co-authors from 80 countries around the world were involved in preparing abstracts for contributions. 805 keynote, plenary, oral and visual presentations will be held during EUBCE.

The EUBCE Conference programme is coordinated by the European Commission Joint Research Centre.

The event is supported by European and international organizations such as the European Commission, UNESCO - United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, Natural Sciences Sector, WCRE - the World Council for Renewable Energy, EUBIA - the European Biomass Industry Association, CEI - The Central European Initiative, FNR,GBEP –Global Bioenergy Partnership, and other organisations.
