Monday International Political Opening Keynote Speakers

The International Political Opening of the EUBCE 2015 will be opened on Monday, 1 June 2015 at 10:15 by Vladimír Šucha, European Commission, Director General JRC with addresses by Günter Liebel, Director General, Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, Environment and Water Management, Josef Plank, President Austrian Industry Biomass Association and David de Jager, IEA-RETD.

The Opening Addresses will be chaired by this year's Conference General Chairman, Ingwald Obernberger, Managing Director, BIOS Bioenergiesysteme GmbH and head of the working group "Energetic Biomass Utilization", Institute for Process and Particle Engineering, Graz University of Technology, Austria.

Following the Opening Addresses, a round table of distinguished international personalities will discuss with focus on "Bioenergy and Economic Growth":
  • Elisabeth Köstinger, European Parliament
  • Giovanni De Santi, European Commission, DG JRC, Director Institute for Energy and Transport
  • Morteza Fesharaki, CEO, HERZ Energietechnik GmbH, Austria
  • Michael Paula, Section Head, Austrian Ministry of Science and Research (invited)
Moderator: Paolo Frankl, Head of the Renewable Energy Division, IEA International Energy Agency, Paris

The 23rd EUBCE Conference Opening will start at 09:00 with the Plenary Session "Applications of Science in Industry" highlighting the latest biomass technologies with:
  • Georg Hofmeister, KWB - Kraft und Wärme aus Biomasse, Research&Development, Austria
  • Freddy Tengberg, Göteborg Energi AB, GoBiGas, Project Director & Site Manager, Sweden
  • Marko Janhunen, UPM Biorefining, Vice President, Stakeholder Relations, Finland and Chair of Leaders of Sustainable Biofuels
  • Alexander Zschocke, Lufthansa Group, Senior Manager Aviation Biofuels, Germany

In addition to the 600 expert presenters addressing the bioenergy research and industry and to the 71 sessions, we are delighted to publish the updated information on the EUBCE Parallel Events, offering a deep insight into specific topics along the most recent technology, market and business trends, and address to global decision makers from industry, research, finance and politics.

Parallel events:
  • EUBCE, Enalgae, RECORD and EUBIA will present for the second time the parallel event titled "Algae Event 2015", aimed at getting a better understanding on the sustainability of algae production and utilisation and on how and why algae can be used for biorefineries.

  • The Austrian Day of the European Biomass Conference is supported by BMLFUW, BMVIT and WKÖ. Under the Chairmanship of Prof. Hermann Hofbauer, key Researcher of BIOENERGY 2020+, Austrian companies and research institutes will present their "Made in Austria" innovations of heat, power and fuel production to the international audience.

  • 2nd Europe – Asia Biomass Development Forum: Opportunities for strengthening cooperation in bioenergy research and development, organised by ETA Florence and EERA Bioenergy. This forum is aimed at promoting dialogue and interaction among European and Asian research organizations and companies in the bioenergy sector.
