Michael Persson appointed General Chairman of the 26th European Biomass Conference and Exhibition, 14-18 May 2018, Copenhagen

The European Biomass Conference and Exhibition - EUBCE, has appointed Michael Persson as General Chairman for its 26th edition which will take place in Copenhagen, Denmark from 14 – 18 May 2018.

“It is a great honour to welcome you to the 26th European Biomass Conference and Exhibition in Copenhagen 2018.
A pioneer in bioenergy, Denmark is well suited to host the 26th EUBCE. We started early moving away from coal by co-firing our most important domestic biomass, straw, and later developed boilers and feeding systems for biomass fueled plants, using pellets, chips and straw, and exporting technology to numerous countries. We were also early adopters of exploiting municipal solid waste for energy rather than landfilling. Now biogas is quickly moving forward expected to fill 10% of our natural gas system in 2018.
The whole bio-economy, delivering food, feed, materials, chemicals and energy, is based on biomass. Also here, with its strong food companies and cooperative spirit among primary producers, industry and academia, Denmark is leading the way.

Michael Persson is Head of Secretariat of the Danish Bioenergy Association. The Danish Bioenergy Associationcomprises all bioenergy technologies and value chains and operates within the Confederation of Danish Industries.Michael Persson has been working with new biomass conversion technologies in DONG Energy from 2007 – 2013, firstly as Vice President, finance and corporate affairs in the subsidiary Inbicon and later as Lead Regulatory Advisor in DONG Energy. He has also worked as business developer at the Technical University of Denmark, and as an independent consultant within bioenergy and biofuels. Before joining the energy industry Michael Persson had a long carrier with Danisco Sugar as Vice President for business development and chairman of the sugar operations in Lithuania, comprising three sugar factories.

Michael Persson is a member of IEA Task 39, the Steering Committee of ETIP – Bioenergy in Brussels, and the Danish Bioeconomy Panel, and serves on the board of AEBIOM. He has a M.Sc. from the Technical University of Denmark and an MBA from INSEAD, France.
